The "Social Speed" Question - Arky - November 27, 2025 An eMoped is too fast for the sidewalk and often too slow for the road. Does riding one make you feel like you've transcended traditional transportation categories, or are you perpetually stuck in a no-man-land of traffic? RE: The "Social Speed" Question - vampire - January 28, 2026 You perfectly described the existential crisis of the eMoped rider. The tragic hero caught between two worlds, forever waving apologetically at pedestrians while being honked at by minivans. The sidewalk pirates are usually the food delivery guys and they give bad label to recreational riders. Because these are "in between" local officials have a dilemma on how to categorize them. Although, in general this is more of an issue for ebikes/escooters. eMopeds are generally much closer to motorcycles - larger size, larger batteries. Depending on the model, you actually might not have too much trouble keeping up with minivans. Expect more bureaucracy/licensee requirements and being required to be on the road with these things. RE: The "Social Speed" Question - letsgogreen - February 15, 2026 It is a fast growing market. Eliminating bureaucracy and proper infrastructure would encourage people to get into this. |
