Durability in lake water vs salt water - waterman - November 7, 2025 Has anyone had experience with the durability of these boards under regular use over several seasons? Any brands that hold up better in saltwater? Is this something I should be considering? RE: Durability in lake water vs salt water - eswimmer - November 24, 2025 Some brands do a better job with saltwater-friendly materials, but even then you still have to rinse everything with fresh water after every ocean session. If not, the salt starts eating things pretty quickly. So yeah it’s worth considering where you’ll ride. If it’s mostly saltwater, look for boards built with marine-grade parts and plan on a little extra maintenance. If you’re mostly on lakes, it’s generally way easier on the gear. https://boardandwind.com/articles/buying-electric-hydrofoil-surfboards/ Quote:Rinse After Use: Always wash your board with fresh water after each session in salty seawater. This simple act can thwart salt buildup on sensitive parts. RE: Durability in lake water vs salt water - waterman - November 26, 2025 Thanks for that. So which components would be sensitive? I am assuming around the motor? Is spraying with a hose a good idea? Nothing else available around the ocean beach. RE: Durability in lake water vs salt water - eswimmer - December 4, 2025 Yes, around the motor, you have seals and things of that nature. Over time, the seal loses flexibility or develops microcracks. Salt water can wear these out allot faster than regular water. And then if salt water, gets inside, it is much worse than fresh water. Salt conducts electricity, speeds up galvanic corrosion. |
